It was VERY WINDY Tuesday across the Hawaiian Islands. A tight pressure gradient was behind the roaring winds which grew even stronger in the “downslope regions” on the west sides of the Islands where winds roaring down to lower elevations out of the state’s volcanoes and mountains undergo a “velocity” increase thanks to gravity snd terrain effects. These powerhouse winds are referred to as “katabatic winds”. Another example of katabatic winds are California’s Santa Anas which sweep southern sec
